Natural Stone Heymans has been making targeted investments in making their site more sustainable for years. This year, the focus was on a smarter electricity policy, with solar panels, battery storage and smart energy control as key pillars.

The challenge

Natural Stone Heymans had already contacted several suppliers for solar panels and battery storage. Only the proposals varied widely in terms of approach, dimensioning and expected results.

This created an important question:

Which solution really fits the consumption and operation of our site?

A standard quotation was not enough. What was needed was an objective analysis of the company’s actual energy consumption and concrete needs.

Energy scan as a starting point

We started the process with a comprehensive energy scan.

During that analysis, the consumption profile, peak power and energy flows at the site, among others, were examined in detail.

This showed that the site draws relatively high peaks at specific times, while average peak consumption remains rather limited. That presented interesting opportunities for smarter management of the capacity tariff and energy costs.

Based on those insights, our team worked out a total solution consisting of:

  • solar panels
  • battery storage
  • charging station infrastructure
  • smart control via the PowerBee EMS
  • an energy contract tailored to the effective consumption profile

The result

This approach gives Natural Stone Heymans more control over its energy consumption and energy costs.

The combination of solar panels, battery and central control ensures that:

  • peak consumption is better accommodated
  • the capacity tariff is better managed
  • the risk of exceeding the access capability is reduced
  • unnecessary additional costs towards Fluvius can be avoided

Importantly, the solution did not depart from a standard configuration, but from the reality of the site and the company’s operations.

This creates an energy approach ready for further sustainability in the future.
